Student Financial Support
McMaster University is known for its excellence in research and education. A steady source of income is available to MD/PhD students to allow them to concentrate on their studies. This income generally consists of an annual stipend, similar to a salary, that is set out in each prospective student’s admission offer. Stipends are paid on a semester basis and, for most full-time students, will consist of research scholarship from the supervisor’s research grant and graduate scholarship from their graduate department. Stipend amounts are guaranteed at a minimum rate of $21,700 per year but may vary between departments. In addition to stipends, the MD and graduate programs offer various bursaries based on financial need.
To make budgeting for your future studies a little easier, McMaster MD/PhD program determines your MD tuition based on your year of entry. This ensures that while you finish your graduate degree, your MD tuition will not increase with inflation. The three-year MD program at McMaster also helps to lessen the overall tuition load while minimizing the length of study.
